Synopsis
Cora Lewis is a whole lot of fun, and she knows how to keep her tattooed bad boy friends in line. But all that flash and sass hide the fact that she’s never gotten over the way her first love broke her heart. Now she has a plan to make sure that never happens again: She’s only going to fall in love with someone perfect.
Rome Archer is as far from perfect as a man can be. He’s stubborn and rigid, he’s bossy and has come back from his final tour of duty fundamentally broken. Rome’s used to filling a role: big brother, doting son, super soldier; and now none of these fit anymore. Now he’s just a man trying to figure out what to do with the rest of his life while keeping the demons of war and loss at bay. He would have been glad to suffer it alone, until Cora comes sweeping into his life and becomes the only color on his bleak horizon.
Perfect isn’t in the cards for these two, but imperfect might just last forever . . .

My Review:

" I had never met anyone who I could actually describe as "hulking" before Rome started hanging around, and like the green monster, his temper seemed to be something everyone else feared."

This is the first book in the series that I have read. I will say this, if I had read the other books i'm sure it would of made it a lot better. I didn't have any issues reading though. I was hooked from the very beginning. I absolutely love Jay's writing. She sinks her claws in you and doesn't let go.

" You poked the bear, Think, so you better hope someone can put him in a cage."

Rome starts off with everyone gathered around celebrating Rule & Shaw's house warming. There is a little firecracker there named Cora aka Tink who just can't stand around and watch Rome be an ass to all the people she cares about. So she ends up opening her mouth which starts something. Rome ends up leaving, but of course everyone is just brushing it off except Tink. Rome just got back from a Tour and isn't acting himself. I can't blame the man, a person can only see and handle so much during a deployment before it does something to them.

" Love isn't perfect. It's hard work and sometimes it's more effort to be in love than it is to just run away. If you keep looking for perfect, the real thing is going to pass right by you. "

Rome is a man that has spent his life protecting his brothers. He spent 10 years of his life in the service, and now he's out. He's having trouble coming to terms with things now. I don't blame the man. I must admit I absolutely adore him. He's sexy as hell and will have your ovaries dancing. Everything seems to be going downhill for Rome that is until this spunky punk-rocker version of Tinker Bell comes at him like white on rice. It took him completely off guard and I must say she is the color he needed in his life. His life has become so dull and gray.

I absolutely loved watching Cora and Rome's story come to life. From the very beginning you could sense the connection, and I mean hell this girl had so much spunk I couldn't help but laugh and be entertained. She was talking so badly of him I couldn't help but giggle to myself and say, " You say that now, but just wait…I bet your feelings will change."  Cora was exactly what Rome needed to snap him out of his stupor and help him realize he has a lot to live for. She was a breathe of fresh air and his reason to fight his demons.

“...whatever blanket of despair he had wrapped himself up in, it was thick and it was fibrous and I could almost feel the weight of it suffocating him.”

Cora was so focused on finding Mr. Perfect, which by the way doesn't exist really. Nobody is completely perfect, but our imperfections are what make us perfect in our own way. If that makes any sense. Rome's imperfections made their relationship real and beautiful. You see Cora was broken in her own way, she is shattered from her ex-douche bag. Which is another reason why she was so set out on Mr. Perfect, she didn't want what happened with her ex to happen again.

I fell in love with this story. I will most def. read the first 2 books in the series now. You don't have to read them first, but I feel now it would of helped me get a better background on the other characters, plus the person Rome use to be. Rome is suffering from PTSD. Many soldiers do, but not everyone.

“This” – I put my hand over his heart and made sure he could feel me squeeze him from the inside – “is as perfect as it gets. You’re my guy, no one else does to me or for me what you do, and that’s all there is to it. I didn’t know what perfect meant until you.”

My brother has been in the Marines for 10 years, and my husband has been in the Army for almost 4. My brother has done 6 tours, and my husband has only done one. I will say this. They both have seen some things and I'm sure have done somethings that they will both have to live with. It's part of duty. Some people just can't handle all the guilt. That's what Rome has to live with. The guilt.

I highly recommend you read Rome!  It's FANTASTIC!

I rate Rome 5+ stars!!!!!

“You were right, you are perfect for me because I’m just as imperfect as you are, but with you, it’s all just flawless.”

“And right now, being with you is the one thing that feels solid and real…You’re so full of color, so vibrant you never get lost in all the gray in my head. I don’t want to lose that.”

About the Author
I’m supposed to share interesting details about myself so that my readers get to know me so here we go in no particular order: I’m an natural redhead even though I haven’t seen my real hair color in years, I’m a big fan of tattoos and have a half sleeve on either arm and various other pieces all over the place, I’ve been in the bar industry since I was in college and it has always offered interesting insight into how men and women interact with each other, I have 3 dogs that are all crazy, I live in Colorado and love the snow, I love music and in all reality wish I could be a rock star not a writer or a bartender but I have zero talent so there is that. I love to write, love to read and all I’m interested in is a good story with interesting characters that make the reader feel something.
